Taxis – local taxis in Thimphu usually have meters, but hardly ever use them. Because local taxi drivers are notorious for overcharging foreigners, it’s best to negotiate the fare before boarding a taxi. Nu. 100 is a fair price for a local ride (since Thimphu is a smaller place than other capital cities). If you’re hiring a taxi driver for sightseeing the city, Nu. 2,000 is fair (for a full day).

Oie Drive Taxi App: since Uber never competed for service in Bhutan, the locally created taxi app “Oie Drive” was launched in 2018, which lets both locals and tourists order a taxi in the capital through their smart phones. See their website for details:
